“Candy coloured clown they call the sandman”
Hope y’all are having a good year so far. Just checking in and saying hi. And sharing some thoughts.
I have been fascinated with this question of “how do we know what is true” and “who am I” since philosophy class in high-school. It opened up a rabbit hole I jumped in and never quite escaped. It’s been quite an adventure. No regrets tho.
Questions like this are guaranteed to bring some turbulence into one’s day to day as you progress through the years, ravaged by the vicissitudes of psychological time.
But you come across ways to navigate, adapt and stay open. That’s why I may seem unattached and uninterested in worldly matters and materialism. Drives my psychiatrist crazy. The other day he was telling about goals and steps and willpower and all that shit. I was sitting there in my pyjamas thinking about my boxing footwork.
Do you trust authority?
I have noticed that many people who say they don’t, actually do. And the ones that do willingly are as dangerous as any army. But at the end of the day, if you need a plumber, you are probably not gonna call a photographer. And if you need to bust ghosts, who you gonna call?
I don’t have the answer to that question and it drives me the right kind of crazy. It gives me this beautiful anxiety in my whole body that kind of becomes an aphrodisiac if I let it burn freely. For men like me, this energy is a profound gift. My guitar feeds on this creative force. VIKING POWER!
Of course it’s a disaster for my social life. People don’t like to be questioned too much. Grown men and women suddenly become little girls and boys again. Especially if they have it all figured out. I question everyone including myself. I have no political agenda. That might change when I run for president.
What about science?
It’s tricky. Because if we “trust the science” like some smart people say we should, we might be falling pray to the jaws of corporate greed. So pay attention to your sources. Are you following science or in actuality, some clever person who is building their brand? Do you even read studies bro.
If anyone is selling books, supplements, retreats and is making money off you believing them, I suggest looking elsewhere for your truth claims. Because if they were ever to be proved wrong, they would go out of business. That goes for all hospitals, governments and religions.
“Those who have discovered the way, don’t hand out business cards.”
Like I said, it’s tricky.
You gotta have the confidence to not know and have nothing. And that can easily be mistaken for a sign of madness. It can also feel kinky if you are really into the game of public approval. This like all those self-help freaks teaching abundance to lure you in. If they practiced what they preached, they would give it all away for free and…. have it all by having nothing. That is real abundance.
So who am I supposed to trust?
Don’t trust anyone. Humans are fallible and whimsical. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a charlatan. Your ego is the greatest charlatan o fall. The “self” is constantly ebbing and flowing, holding on to things that make it seem like reality is stable. The future is impermanent!
Be proud that you are alive and breathing/blinking. If you feel like you are losing your mind, at least lose it in style. With a smile upon your face and a spark in your step.
For me…
Singing, dancing, guitar, piano, poetry… is the only way to keep loving THIS. All of it. That is the secret. Or watch others do it, this will invigorate you. And inspire you.
Art is making love with the gods…
A sacrifice. A surrender. A celebration.
We become each other.

PS. Working on new vicevoids album… 11 songs, coming soon. World travel in april-may. Gonna go where what I do is needed most. Not sure yet where that is exactly. In fact, I am not even sure what it is that I do exactly. Probably better to not know and keep my options open. Open relationship with life.
