I’ve made a lot of changes in my life in recent years. Or at least tried to. I’ve also made a lot of mistakes in my lifetime for which I’ve paid the price. At some point I just realized that the ‘normal’ way of living in the modern world is not good for me or anyone else either. But often these changes don’t stick and I keep getting pulled back into my old ways. As mentioned before, this time I will gradually make changes.

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is overcoming addictions whether it’s to substances or to emotions, beliefs, thought patterns, etc. Actually these are often all intermeshed into one big mess. One of my biggest addictions has and is potato chips (and other food mimicking things)! Again and again I poison myself with this junk that I know is not good for me and that I know will make me feel sick and weak. I always make rationalizations and tell myself it’s no big deal or that it will be taste so good.

Tonight I did it again!

But tonight was the last straw. Me and potato chips are finished! Besides, it’s one of the unhealthiest foods there is. I certainly don’t need it for health.

Since it’s just past midnight and a new day has started, I wanted to write this post as a testament to the fact that as of this date I will no longer be eating potato chips or anything related to it either (nachos, popcorn, banana chips, etc) ever again. No matter how bad it gets. I will rather starve… and come here to write about it!

If I want to snack on something, I will eat fruit, veggies or nuts and seeds + drink water. Actually the goal is to eventually only consume those (fvnsw) and not just for snacking. I’ve tried doing that in the past but it didn’t work out so that’s why I am trying to get there gradually this time.

I know I’ve still got a few other big addictions to deal with (like salt) but at least now I know that if I want potato chips I will either make potatoes myself (either fried on a pan or baked in the oven, which is at least a little healthier) or not eat anything and try to bear the uncomfortable feeling of wanting ‘something’.

I know it still sounds like I am justifying my salt addiction with these alternate options but this seems like the wise thing to do right now. I must be patient. And I mustn’t repeat past mistakes which will get me nowhere.
