Only

we know the right words to say
we know when to look and when to look away
we know how to feel and how it’s faked
we know what to do and how it breaks

but we don’t know that what we have
is more than any of that

we know that this might just be a game
we know the difference between escape and running away
we know how to hurt ourselves
we know what it feels like to have nobody else

but we don’t know that what we got
is not something that can be bought

it’s a world of misery in this shell
where we dwell
but there is no heaven without hell

it’s a raging sea
where we are lost in need
but the cold heart feels most the burning sun that beams

we don’t know that what we are
is more than what we think we’re not
we don’t know that what is left
is the hidden beauty that gives what is kept
