Notes From Bonkerville

It’s snowing outside. I’m sitting in my living room listening to Townes Van Zandt’s “High, Low & In Between” album quietly playing on the speakers. My birthday is coming up in a few days. I am turning 41 and will celebrate by going to psychotherapy in the afternoon and returning a library book I finished yesterday. All my friends are a million miles away. I woke up at 7:44 this morning, urinated, looked at my running watch lying on bookshelf to see the time and thought “I need to sleep more” so got back to bed, put on my eye mask because it was already quite bright outside. I thought I’d crack open the kitchen window a bit to get some fresh crispy air flowing but there was a guy dressed in neon shovelling snow and then I thought the noise will prevent me from sleeping so I shut that window, walked to my living room and cracked open balcony door instead hoping it would not get too cold. Walked back to living room, got back to bed, mask on, found a comfortable position, thought about my new song briefly and how I will shower when I wake up and shave my 6 day stubble when the hot water has relaxed my pores sufficiently and then drink coffee which I started drinking again yesterday (after quitting a month ago). Fuck this. I wanna get up now. Sleep is for losers. So I got out of bed. Opened all the windows to let fresh air in from every room and air out the apartment. I turned on my computer monitor and stereo, put on The Police greatest hits, turned it up and then got in the shower. It felt wonderful. Today is gonna be remarkable I said to myself. And here we are a few hours later proving myself right. Just been reading a Lou Barney thriller and drinking coffee and doing some internet stuff. I usually take it quite easy in the mornings. More of a night person. It’s saturday. Life is good. Working on my new song “antidote” from my upcoming album. Sounding really good. I love making music. When I’m not creating or playing or practising or performing, everything falls apart and I go completely bonkers. That’s probably why my rock star dreams are collecting dust in an attic somewhere in a house that was never even built. Until next time…
