I Once Knew You

I knew you once before
but now we are becoming
strangers again,

as you begin to disappear
you kissed me so suddenly
yesterday

on the stairs
I stumbled down invisibly
heart racing mad
your brown eyes, skin so tanned
such unbearable beauty
can kill a man

a busy man
so god damn busy
that I’ve driven myself
to a world of loneliness

those innocent kisses of yours
oh my sweet girl
if you could know
the gifts you have given me

this burning anguish
these longing words
when we are long gone
your nervous stillness
and blushing cheeks
my fake comfort,
romantic dreams
of dirty love
and black hearts
coming up for breath
then back down again
lets not pretend
anymore than we must
lets not be afraid
of our churning lust
of what will and what we will
be missing
I miss you most
when you are here
when you avoid me
I feel most lonely
when our lips meet
when you destroy me
because I have walked
those dark roads before
when you told me to not look at you
like that
when I saw you
somewhere
when I once knew you
