fame might kill you

You can be all those things and be broke (like all them unemployed philosophers, musicians, and painters out there), or you can be those things and be rich (or wealthy, or financially independent…whatever you wanna call it).

This is a tricky issue. And I have yet to find anyone who has truly solved it. Even when you look at successful bands and musicians, you see this ascension to their peak, they become very wealthy and then something happens and it’s like that success destroys all the magic. You can see this with all the big bands from 60s, 70s… beatles, doors, zep, floyd, queen, dylan, etc. And then later with metallica, gnr, nirvana, etc. What happened? Nobody knows. Money comes in, funds the art but detroys everything. Genius is gone, projects dissolve and rock stars escape into their mansions never to be heard from again except the odd reunion tour or mediocre album.

I think the genius is still there but there is no more urgency to express it. It enabled them to escape from poverty and scarcity. In the beginning music WAS their wealth but then that was replaced by money. So I think I was somehow traumatized by this process and even seeing some of my heroes die and killed by fame essentially. I think i tried to avoid it this path by maintining my arttistic integrity. Although I wanted the fame and glory, there was another part of me sabotaging it knowing that it might kill me.
