From now discontinued 30bananasaday forums…
Hey folks.
Since the start of the 2011 year, I have been 100% vegan and mostly low fat raw.
Before that I was in contact with Doug and Durianrider, got great advice as to what I should be doing and how to get the results I am looking for. I know what to do. The only thing really limiting me right now is my budget but I am taking some steps to make changes. Right now, all my money is going to food (besides rent, bills).
I feel pretty good physically. I have no doubt that this is my path.
I am also hungry to learn more about nutrition and the science behind my lifestyle. I know a little. Have been reading about it in books, online, videos, forums, etc for the last few years. The last week or 2 I have engulfed in the world of knowledge more than ever. It’s good to keep on getting a deeper understanding of this great subject.
But now I feel… confused. There is so much information about everything. There’s science behind this and studies backing that. I am weary of relying on my own faith concerning what I believe is true. I don’t want this to be a question of faith or dogma. I don’t trust in faith. That is one of the reasons why the 811 + Natural Hygiene principles attract me so much because they are logical. Reasonable. They seem self-evident once you understand them.
Today i’ve found myself ‘running’ around online mindlessly. I feel like there is an information overload in my head. I am not sure what to ‘believe’ anymore. I want to hit the reset button. Perhaps there is just too much information in my head and I need a little break. Yet I am frustrated that I cannot express myself and backup what I think I know in discussions with friends and on some other forums where there is constant debates on what the science says, what we should eat, defending the 811 lifestyle, etc. I try to keep it simple but certain people always want the nitty gritty details.
There are also a lot of people who think what we do is a joke and I want to thoroughly understand how they see it as such. There are moments when I question myself and ask if I have been fooled? So the security is not there yet. Hence the need to learn more. and no I am not letting this interfere with the actual eating part.
I feel like I don’t know anymore what is the right way. I find myself in a sudden state of “am I relying on faith or science here?”. Then I start thinking about science and even wondering if i can even rely on that. If not science, what then is there to rely on? My own psyche? My own body? That never got me anywhere. I am lost.
This confusion is causing me stress because I want to continue learning. This is turning into an obsession and I am not sure that is a healthy way to move forward. Perhaps it’s just a temporary thing and comes with the sudden clearness of mind and thought.
Tonight I numbed myself with nachos and salsa dip + orange juice and gave in to temptation although I had plenty of fruit around. but actually the “drugs” didn’t work which I am glad about.
I would also like to ask for your advise on the best way to acquire a real deep fundamental understanding of the science behind this. Yes, the internet is full of information. I feel like I need some structure in the way I am to apply my learning. I definitely have the motivation and time to really commit to it. I am in envy sometimes of how deeply some people especially on these forums grasp the various factors regarding our diets, nutrition, etc.
Would it be too much to ask, if you kindly offered me some assistance on the matter?
Guide me in the right direction. What would be the best path to take. Do you folks have any learning strategies for the best way to get this information into my head? For those with more experience, what pursuit did you use to take you where you are now?
I am not the quickest reader and my comprehension + focus/concentration seem to often be quite restless especially with the more scientific stuff. This is also frustrating as I want to learn the hardcore science as well. e.g. currently reading “Left In The Dark” and I am really having a hard time getting through some of more technical information (the DNA code, transcription, MAO inhibitor stuff) although it’s really fascinating.
Or perhaps it’s healthy to always remain in a slight state of skepticism regarding… well, everything. Even our own choices and beliefs. Thanks for your time. I better get some sleep now.
