Cruel

it’s so cruel
that i never got to see your eyes
after we killed each other inside

it’s so cruel
that i never got to hear your voice
when there was no more words to come out

it’s so cruel
that we never got to lay in bed
wondering together in silence about nothing

i don’t regret the goodbyes we never said
nor did i ever dream that one day we would wake
from this which we confuse with reality
preventing the tide from roaming free

no the cruelty does not lie in our distance
it does not bear any weight
or forgiveness
for cruelty is not blind!
like I have been all this time

relying so much on stuff i don’t believe in
comforted by lies that nobody has even told me
cruelty sleeps with it’s eyes open
jumps of cliffs with a maddening laughter

it might be cruel
that we never got to know
what we may have missed

it might be cruel
that I long for days
that might never come

but the real cruelty lies
in words i cannot find
and in answers to the same old questions
which run from us
which make us who we are
