BOOK REVIEW: Sugar Blues (William Dufty)

Rating: 2/5

This is a messy book. Jumps all over the place. Written in the 70s. His views on sugar a little on the extreme side. Apparently sugar is the cause of everything evil. I don’t think so. Combine it with high fat then yes. But gotta look at it from a wider perspective. He gets many things right. And the cultural history of sugar and other refined foods is fascinating. Writing is just clunky and there is no narrative holding it together. The parts about sugar could’ve been one chapter. Seemed like the author is rambling most of the time and despearte to fill a book. Journalistic books have evolved a lot. I wouldn’t bother reading this, I’m sure there are better books on the topic.

Go easy on the sugar and refined foods. Will that solve all your health problems? Probably not.
