bittersweetness of springtime

Although I love the spring for what it represents, it’s always a tough season for me to get through due to my intense allergies to pollen and whatever else is blooming.

Since the beginning of this decade I have refused to take any medicine/drugs for anything. The only way I will go to a doctor/hospital is if my arm falls off and it needs sowing. Either than that, I am my own doctor.

As the father of modern medicine, Hippocrates said over two-and-a-half thousand years ago, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” I will not support the medical/pharmaceutical industry anymore than necessary nor will I continue to pollute my body with toxic pills, useless (and damaging) vaccines or anything else that doesn’t belong. My system has been hindered enough by these foreigners. It is troubling to not know as to what degree and for how long my internal defenses have been handicapped.

It’s early in the morning and I can hear birds twirping and chirping outside my window. Last night there was a heavy thunder storm which I remember listening to and admiring. It’s always a powerful experience for me to be reminded by nature’s might.  The importance of these reminders seem to grow as I become more aware of my own true place in this wondrous charade. The storm has now passed and nature has once again cleansed itself and seemingly returned its equilibrium status, however temporary this may be. But the storm in my body has not passed through yet.

Runny nose, watery eyes, stuffy nasals, tiredness are my “immune” (I place this word in parenthesis because some anatomy textbooks don’t even recognize such a system to exist) system’s way of telling me that my body must be relieved of all other duties and focus completely on storing itself to proper health.

It is for that reason I have decided to go on a fast.

It’s only been a little over 13 hours since I last ate. I am drinking water which I have at my bedside. Although I should keep the room mostly dark because the light seems to aggravate my eyes causing me to sneeze non-stop, I let the morning sun seep in and throw shadows of birds and branches on the wall.

This is also a good time to rekindle my passions for The Beatles music & Star Wars movies. It’s been a while. I’m also reading Nietzsche but only when my eyes permit it. Other than that, the next few days (or however long it takes) will be spent mostly in a horizontal position, resting and drinking water. I’ll try to squeeze in a little fresh air, sunshine, light walking/stretching in to keep my energies flowing.

Yeah, it could be better but it could also be much worse. This is a golden opportunity to witness the power of my own body in healing itself and also a reminder to live in a way to not compromise these natural processes. I am grateful that I have the freedom to do this my own way because I know that not everyone does. The price we pay for not taking care of ourselves is too high for me. Each to their own of course.
