For the last few months I’ve played in a cool little bar in old town several times called CLAYHILLS GASTROPUB. I play there tonight also, starting at 21:45. I will play 3 sets of 45 minutes each. I switch back and forth between piano/voice and guitar/voice. The food is good there. I really like the staff and managment, good people. The distant clinking and clanking of drink glasses in foreign tongues. The mysterious tallinn summer sky watching over us…
I differentiate between two kinds of shows that I do:
1) showcase events; a very focused set of about 45-60 minutes where I am firing on all cylinders from start to finish, these are usually very draining for me emotionally although I enjoy them very much for this intensity they demand
2) marathon show (like tonight); a different apparoach where I have more time to explore/experiment with new material or stuff I wouldn’t normally, sometimes throwing other people’s songs in there and more freedom to tell stories, jokes, etc. I also enjoy these but they are not so easy to get motivated towards (until I’m actually playing). This is what pays my bills and enables me to not have to have a day job. I usually don’t promote these at all besides the posts here. And I actually don’t really use the SLH name for these… This is all about me, me, me.
