There are various theories on the stages of human development with more or less the same themes, just categorized differently. .
By age 25 humans get to stage 5.
From age 25 to 55 there is almost no development for most humans. By that age you are established. Small exploration here and there. Humans are extremely stubborn towards change. Think about your own life. Your views, opinions, preferences, tastes, connections, friends, etc. There are probably evolutionary reasons for this, to keep communities fairly stable.
The only apparently proven way to help us advance is meditation.
