This was a very difficult book to get through but I forced myself by reading a chapter per day. The underlying thesis is great and I learned a lot about flow states and creativity. But the writing is awful. Dense, academic and lots of pointless chapters and rambling bullshit that doesn’t do at all what the book is called… FLOW. Such a beautiful concept, unfortunately made redundant and pointlessly complex in this gobblededook mess of a book.
On top of that there are 40 pages of extra notes that nobody cares about unless they are still caught up in the materialist reductionist scam of western science or mental masturbation disguised as philosophy or psychology.
The book was published in 1990. Maybe if it was more accessible to non-academics, the message would’ve actually caught on more. I see very little evidence of that. Most people seem to be living lives that are the polar opposite of flow. Smartphones, masks and scamdemic lies prevail. The general public have lost the ability to think for themselves. Maybe they never did or could. Better to obey, take your pills and show up at work on time. Suck off your boss to get a raise or get famous.
Only depraved lunatics and knowledge junkies like me will actually take the time to read books like this. There is another way but this book ain’t gonna help you.
