Freedom is impossible in a society with price tags on things that should be free for everyone: healthy food, clean water, shelter, heat, clothing, education. The struggle and frustration to get these things for those who are not financially privileged is the source of all troubles. The list of the “troubled” is growing at an alarming rate. This will have and is having severe consequences for the “happy” people. Some are just too happy too see these consequences or perhaps unwilling to truly look at reality. Or they just don’t care. So even the happy ones are troubled. They just don’t know it.

Too much comfort and security is dangerous in such times because it causes our capacity for empathy to atrophy. It dumbs us down intellectually. It zombifies us into materialistic robots stuck in the past.

What we need most is a shift in our core value systems. This must begin from an individual standpoint. We must each assess our own place in life. Take an inventory of our beliefs and investigate their sources. Once we do this, everyone will likely meet at the same point. At square one.

Then we can figure out a way to live in a way that works for everyone. There is a way. As a matter of fact, these alternative solutions (to our current non-solution based system of living) are already out there.
