I kind of live in an apartment within a dorm (I don’t share a room/kitchen/bathroom with anyone) and my practice room is on the bottom floor of the same building which is where I work on my skills & my songs + record them also. I like to practice 2-3 hours at some point during the day (it differs depending on my schedule) and then record after midnight for another 2-3 hours because then it’s most quiet.
There are good and bad sides to living in a dorm building. The good sides are that it’s quite cheap and—because I have the practice room (which I pay for separately), I don’t have to leave the building to go practice. This is good for my acoustic guitar especially in winter when the air is really dry here. It’s also nice to be part of a exchange student atmosphere even if it’s just walking down the corridor, saying hi to young, enthusiastic, beautiful people.
The bad side is that there is too much tempation. Usually there are parties going on in some floors, like today. The students seem to like partying on wednesdays which is not good for me because then my whole week is fucked. I also know that partying is easy and it’s always there to be had. It takes quite a bit of self-discipline to ignore the “go party” voices and just get to work and shut off the rest of the world—especially when I can hear the fun and the decadent laughters whispering in my ears with their seductive spells and sweaty adventures into the unknown.
Well, I better get back to work and get through my practice routine…
The new song is sounding even better than the last one. My playing is stronger than ever before which makes things a lot easier. I can express myself deeper and let my self go into the songs. This one is called “Thinking About You”. Guitar tracks are all done. Tonight I will record vocals and percussion. Tomorrow I will mix it, master it and put it online. More about the song then.
I’m glad I abandoned my previous stuff, it was causing me a lot of unnecessary inner strife which is what we get when we do something we don’t really want to be doing. The band thing was sort of cool and I may still use the guys but… I dunno, I guess I’m really bad at working with other musicians. I’m fiercely independent when it comes to making my art.
Friday & Saturday I will have a few drinks with some cool people and (hopefully) deserve it too!
