hey folks.
hope the 2011 year is going well.
mine is.
decided to make some changes in my life.
the new year is good for that. otherwise it’s just really a bunch of numbers. sure, we can make changes always. but it’s fun to have an excuse. to change. to make sure we are growing. becoming.
too many people go through life dying instead of living.
neither is an absolute state.
life and death.
essentially the same thing. the paradox is: when did life begin?
so what is going on with me?
well, firstly of all I decided that my music career has reached a point where it has to be put on hold. i feel like i’ve taken what i was doing to its conclusion. how long will it be on hold? for now my answer is indefinitely. when and IF i am to continue with it again, it will be in a completely different manner.
if genuinely feel that there is more important matters to be given attention now in this world than making music. also, i honestly am just really sick of music (in the sense of a career that is).
even the though of it makes me feel suffocation and dread.
for me, creating, playing and listening to music started to become like a drug for which the “high” was getting lower and lower until there was no more high left.
i burned myself out.
i never found the success i wanted with what i was doing.
it was never about being good enough.
it was about being something i never really even wanted to be.
a little more recognition would’ve been nice but ultimately i wasn’t willing to make that happen. i was too afraid that i would lose something.
i never sent out one album to anybody but friends.
i never tried to get on the radio or get a record deal, publishing contract, sponsorship, etc.
there were some opportunities here and there but i can say with confidence that what never happened was just not meant to happen.
i never felt comfortable with being a ‘musician’.
i never liked being around other musicians or playing with other musicians.
i never wanted to be part of some ‘scene’ or ‘genre’.
i fought bitterly to avoid all that.
so most of the music part was done alone. in solitude. even performing.
yes there are great and talented musicians out there. i even played with some.
but talent was never enough for me. i was looking for something more.
i was looking for someone to take me to a new level. not just in music but in life. through music.
i never found that.
at least yet.
so i relied on myself as much a i could. and as i said, took it as far as ‘it’ could go.
reached a dead end.
but it’s alright.
it can be empowering to admit to ourselves that we didn’t in fact fail but learned.
i learned that i was trying to be something i am not.
but i had good times. met some great people on my travels and through my performances.
i wrote some music that i can truly admire and stand behind.
it’s time to close that part of my life and put it away for the time being.
so what now?
well i must say, the other night i experienced something truly great.
a catalyst.
a final push towards freedom.
towards a new way of living.
i went to see a film called Zeitgeist: Moving Forward.
you can download it for free online starting january 25th.
i have been apart of The Zeitgeist Movement for over two years now. but only silently.
now i am ready to tell you that this is the way to go for humanity.
a resource based economy. a global social system that is governed by science & technology.
our money-market based social system benefits nobody.
what benefit there may seemingly be is an illusion.
even for those in power.
i encourage you all to watch this film.
it will change the way you look at the world.
i have also been involved with something else for many years which i have also been pretty quiet about. something that could be called “the health movement”.
a new passion ignited inside me when i first learned that i can take complete control of how i feel.
without drugs. without doctors. without medicine. without magic pills or potions.
our bodies are truly our temples. if we treat ourselves as gods and goddesses, we will feel so.
the only god i have ever believed in is the one we see when we each look in the mirror.
we are each gods of our own lives. how we see the world is a reflection of ourselves.
sometimes it’s hard to look at old friends and relatives looking back at somebody who doesn’t even exist anymore. it’s hard to be around people who ‘think’ they know me. but remember, everything changes. everybody. even our knowledge about the world. we have to see the change in each other. not hold on to old patterns of thinking and ideals that we can never live up to. the world is changing.
and so am i.
i have made some decisions.
some of them require a little patience. time. persistence.
some of them might be hard to understand now but will be more clear as time unfolds.
all i know is that i am ready to dedicate the rest of my life
to health.
wellness.
feeling great.
helping others get healthier. feel better. become great.
that is the ultimate greatness there is. to give it away.
that will be my contribution.
and who knows? maybe one day i’ll even write a song about it all…
now it’s time.
to get to work.
i will be writing again when the time is right.
take care and remember that the only true wealth is health.
